Creating the landscape of the original US colonies, the Colonial was the dominant style from the 17th century to the 19th century. 

Colonials are rectangular, symmetrical 2-to-3 story homes with side-gabled roofs, thick brick chimneys, centreal front doors, and multi-paned double-hung shutter-clad windows. The minimum Colonial floor plan positions: 1) an elegant foyer, formal dining and living rooms, kitchen, and half bathroom on the first floor and 2) three bedrooms and one full bathroom on the second floor. Larger Colonial floor plans incorporate an additional wing with a family room on the first floor, an additional bedroom and full bathroom on the second floor, and possibly even a third floor.

Colonial is an umbrella term encompassing Saltbox, Georgian, French, and Dutch styles among others. Milwaukee Colonials often showcase Cream City brick siding.
